Formula One Used To Sound Better In 1994
Video
This is how a proper Formula One car used to sound not like the drone of the superior modern day F1 car. This is the Ferrari 412 T1 from 1994 being driven by its former pilot Gerhard Berger.

Berger was driving his former steed on the circuit de Spa Francorchamps just a few days ago, the Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 3.5 V12 developed 800bhp back in the day. Oh how we wish for the V12’s return, which could one day happen in the hybrid era.

The 412T was a bit of a dog and gave Ferrari, Berger and his then team mate, Jean Alesi, a real headache although the John Barnard designed car did secure one pole and one victory during the 1994 season. Still they are better statistics than Alonso’s last season for the Scuderia. Gerhard Berger, Jean Alesi, John Barnard? who are they you might well ask, they are part of Formula One’s history now mere footnotes for the F1 statisticians. But that a sound, what a sound it is.
