Remember the BMW CSL from 1970? We must admit we don’t either because its not of our time, BMW do and they will be paying homage to the car that we don’t have any affinity to with a CSL style tribute. You can’t see it just yet because BMW are looking to milk the publicity for as long as they can, so they released a teaser image instead.
Well to be precise 9 days from now BMW will release a homage to the classic BMW we’ve not taken much interest in on May 22nd. BMW have chosen the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este to show off the Hommage, that’s what they are calling this homage, the Hommage.
The Hommage will be a concept, a doffing of the cap to the orignal CSL which also had a very successful run in the European Touring Car Championship and the Hommage pays tribute to this 1970’s legacy… that we have no connection with.
Looking at the pictures the Hommage will be based on the current 4 Series Coupe and appears to have a widebody look which is flanked by contoured air deflectors. BMW are promising a use of cutting edge technology and lightweight materials. We reckon it will weigh around 1,350kg that’s the lightest modern day performance cars get, concept or not.
Actual details are thin on the ground more will be revealed on May 22nd, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is held within the grounds of the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este, Italy with Lake Como as a spectacular backdrop.
