Maserati Levante SUV Revealed
Auto News
Our friends over at Topspeed.com have been busy burning the midnight oil and after all those twilight hours watching bats and creating the odd Photoshop rendering they have another exclusive preview look based on spyshots and a bit of imagination. This time their focus is on the Maserati Levante, yes Maserati will be joining a host of other luxury marques by entering the all important SUV market. Rich Arabs, Americans and Chinese oligarchs are buying SUV’s and this surge in demand needs to addressed. Maserati like any car manufacture needs to constantly find new ways of making money. Entering the SUV market will open new doors and keep the money ticking over. The Levante SUV will go on sale in 2016, there are plenty of spy shots floating around so Topspeed.com gathered all the latest images, and their thoughts to create this rendering. Maserati hope the Levante will boost annual production from its current 50k units  to 75,000 by 2018. In the UK Maserati hopes to sell around 3,000 Levantes. Considering the company sold only 319 cars in the UK during 2013 that target is going to be a tall order. The Levante will use a modified version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s chassis and also borrow its 4×4 technology. The body is expected to be made mostly out of aluminium in order to reduce weight and improve inefficiencies. A new or possibly upgraded 410bhp twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol V6 and a 530bhp twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 will be offered along with a 271bhp 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel that is already in use for the Ghibli. The latter will be specific for the European markets. Maserati are also developing plans to introduce a Plug-in hybrid although no launch date has been officially declared only a shrug of the shoulders in that typical Italian mannerism.  Maserati-Levante-TopSpeed-Rendering
