Mercedes To Pump Up The Volumes In Luxury Cat Fight

Mercedes has its claws out and its fangs showing as it begins the fightback to take on BMW and Audi in a sales turf war and the 2015 C Class Coupe is one such car that has ambitions to take back some ground lost to the Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series. The re-designed coupe is due to debut at this years Frankfurt Motorshow with a convertible AMG version to follow sometime around 2016. Mercedes say the new C Class Coupe will set a new benchmark for performance, technology and design. The C Class Coupe is based on the current gen C Class and while the interior will be carried over although the coupe’s roofline will be lower and sleeker. The new C Class Coupe is 1.6-inches longer and 3.7-inches wider than its predecessor and that means more space up front. However the rear sloping roof means rear passenger headroom will be limited. When the C Class Coupe launches in the UK towards the end of 2015 one petrol and three diesel engines will be available at launch. The sole petrol engine will be the 2.0-litre turbo 181bhp, 300Nm of torque unit. Diesels include a 1.6-litre with 134bhp in the C200, with the C220 and C250 sharing a 2.1-litre with 168bhp and 210bhp respectively. The  C300 BlueTEC diesel hybrid, with 237bhp and a claimed range of 74mpg combined will also be on the model list. The C Class Coupe needs to mark a return to form for Mercedes, the company has slipped behind Audi and BMW in the premium luxury sector, its now a dog fight for as many sales as possible. When this happens reliability and the ‘new benchmark for performance, technology and design’ tend to suffer.
