Audi Admits 2.1 Million Cars Were Fitted With Defeat Devices
Auto News
For the Volkswagen Group It seems like 1939, the world is spinning head first into a catastrophic period and nothing can be done to stop the dark forces unleashing hell. But it’s 2015 and VW’s world is collapsing around its self and taking with it victims of a global and secret war on defeating emissions regulations. After Volkswagen admitted to cheating emissions regulations by using a software based “defeat-device” it should be hardly surprising that sister brand Audi has also been caught up in the fraudulent engineering/software melee. Audi has confirmed 2.1 million cars sold across the globe have been fitted with the “defeat-device”. A spokesperson said the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5 are affected. In a separate development ousted VW CEO, Martin Winterkorn, is under investigation for fraud by German prosecutors. The prosecutors office said “allegations of fraud in the sale of cars with manipulated emissions data” will be investigated. Volkswagen moved quickly to make full scale management changes, last week VW installed Matthias Mueller to take over from the deposed Martin Winterkorn. Muller left his position as the head of Porsche where he transformed the company into one of VW’s most profitable divisions. But he is also seen as a Winterkorn ally and questions must be raised as to how much he knew about the company’s manipulation and emissions fraud. It has been reported that VW has suspended senior R&D heads from across the groups core brands such as Porsche, Audi and surely Skoda and Seat are sure to suffer similar fates. VW’s shares have fallen by as much as 35 percent and several countries have launched investigations. Switzerland has placed a temporary ban on the sale of VW diesel engined models. Some analysts are suggesting VW will never recover its market share in America as it reputation slides further particularly as VW’s strategy was to sell a new generation of cleaner diesel models to US consumers in order to gain market share.  Audi-Defeat-Device
