Auto News
You may have already seen the facelifed Mercedes SL and we have always liked what is probably the only convertible luxury grand tourer you should buy. Its been revealed at the LA Motorshow for one specific reason, America is the largest market for the SL with California being the biggest buying territory. And as California is the facelift haven of the world what better place then to reveal the face-lifted SL. The updates are not just pertained to the exterior which now receives a number of styling modifications making the sixth generation SL look just as desirable as it ever was. If you can’t tell the difference between the fifth and sixth generation then more fool you because we here at DCB Towers can’t either. 2016-Mercedes-SL-Side-Front Yes the sixth generation looks almost entirely similar to the fifth however the sixth gen is constructed almost entirely out of aluminium to reduce weight by around 110kg. Overall it’s slightly longer and wider than the previous generation it succeeded back in 2012. The main body panel styling changes are so slight that you would be hard pressed to tell between the 2001 edition and the current 2015 edition save for the headlight and rear tail-light designs. 2016-Mercedes-SL-Interior-Front But its underneath where most of the changes have been made with a bump in horsepower, a new 9-speed auto gearbox, improved driving dynamics, five driving modes and a retractable hardtop roof that folds away while the car is speeding at up to 25mph. The model range now comprises twin-turbo enhanced engines from the SL 400 V6 engine which pumps out 367 hp 500 Nm (additional 25 kW/35 hp and also 20 Nm) as well as the SL 500 which slam dunks 455 hp and 900 Nm of torque from its spirited V8 engine. 2016-Mercedes-SL-Rear Mercedes have also included a host of driver features like Dynamic Select which alters the vehicle characteristics at the touch of a button, the system modifies the setup of the engine, transmission, suspension and steering to the driver’s pre-selected liking  from comfortable to extremely sporty in the new third Sport+ mode. Variable dampers are fitted as standard, if you opt for the AMG Line model then the suspension is lowered by 10 mm and fitted with more robust springs and torsion-bar stabilisers. 2016-Mercedes-SL-Interior-Passenger-View At a later date Mercedes will also launch the ultra powerful AMG models which will require squeezing more power from the V8 bi-turbo to form the SL 63 and also the V12 bi-turbo powered SL 65. 2016-Mercedes-SL-Front Despite all this extreme power Mercedes are still marketing the SL as a luxury Gran Tourer for a more civilised age. So expect a luxurious interior with more internet enable/connected features and also expect to pay more for those optional extras whatever they may be expect to pay more. Mercedes will bring the updated SL to market in 2016, prices will strat from £100k GBP.  2016-Mercedes-SL-Motion
