Concept Artist Turns BMW i8 Into A Procar
Auto News
We have featured Mr Khyzyl Saleem before, before he was famous after which all hell broke loose. Because we are a niche operator in a sea of sharks our discoveries go unnoticed for others to pick up on and take the limelight. Nevertheless the boy Khyzyl has done us proud and continues to churn out high quality concept renderings at can do attitude rate. Here is Khyzyl’s latest rendering and this time he’s taken a BMW i8 and turned it into a Procar. Procar is a yearly motorsport series organized by the German automobile club and has been running since 1995. BMW also had a one make Procar series for the M1, a mid-engine sports car that was originally intended to be a joint project between Lamborghini and BMW in the 1970’s. To cut a long story short BMW ended up building the M1 after Lamborghini got into a bit of finacial trouble. Production of the M1 lasted from 1978-1981. To encourage sales of the M1, BMW formulated a marketing blitz and arranged the M1 Procar Championship which had it’s inaugural season in 1979 and promptly folded by 1980. The widebody look, colour scheme and those racing slicks in Khyzyl’s rendering are directly inspired by the 1979 Procar M1. The top drivers in Formula One at the time were drafted in to compete in one-off races which totaled 8 during the season. F1 drivers included included James Hunt, Nikki Lauda and a certain Tiff Needell. Yes Needell did compete in Formula One driving two Grands Prix for Ensign. The BMW i8 is a different beast for a modern age, a two door sports coupe powered by a mid-engine 1.5-litre, inline turbocharged hybrid powerplant.  BMW-i8-Pro-Am
