Industry News
Aston Martin has finally confirmed where it will build the DBX Crossover. Construction of a new production facility will begin in Wales starting from 2017 and will be completed by 2020. Aston Martin initially considered making the DBX in the US and even considered building a facility in the Middle East. The new site in Wales is approximately 120 miles from Aston Martin’s HQ in Gaydon Warwickshire. It is estimated around 1000 new jobs will be created as a result of the investment. Wales was among 20 sites around the globe Aston Martin shortlisted for a viability study. Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer explained why Wales was chosen, “It was site-readiness, infrastructure, availability of skilled labor, the proactive nature of the government, Cardiff University, (and) the area has already got aerospace, defense and other industries,” The production facility won’t come cheap, Aston Martin will invest £200m to get the site up to production ready standards. Aston Martin wants to build and sell more cars with the aim of expanding total production to around 7,000 units per year by 2020. Later this year Aston Martin will begin production of the all new DB11 which will be followed by an all electric version of the Rapid by 2018. Since Ford sold Aston Martin in 2007 its has effectively become a private car manufacture owned by a group of venture capital funds. The company has not turned a profit since 2010. By increasing its product range company executives anticipate a return to profit over the next five years.  Aston-Martin-DBX-Crossover-Wales-Edition
