Throw in a sequential gearbox, stripped out interior with roll-cage, a massive rear wing and a chassis that is 40cm wider than a standard Golf GTi and you have meanness defined.
The Golf GTi was co-developed with the help of Seat Sports who created the Seat Leon Cup Racer.
Much of the Golf GTi TCR’s attitude is down to this joint collaboration between these sister brands.
Volkswagen haven’t revealed how much this track only GTi will cost but word on the street is it may well be in the region of around £85k GBP.
For those who can not afford such a price tag VW has created road going version called the Golf GTi Club Sport but it’s detuned in the engine department to around 265bhp. And it looks less dramatic than the GTi TCR.
Both Golf GTi TCR and Club Sport edition may be full of useless acronyms but for VW it’s a chance to celebrate 40 years of the GTi brand.
