Ford Issues Total Recall Of Almost 300,000 Cars
Industry News
Ford USA is in the process of recalling nearly 300,000 vehicles after several incidents led to drivers having accidents on the roads. There are two major problems to watch out for affecting the vast majority of vehicles in the recall process. Ford is also issuing recalls for other vehicles with a few minor faults. The first problem is a matter affecting the suspension on sport-utility vehicles. Around 81,000 are getting a recall. The suspension defect is affecting some Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor SUVs from 2014. According to reports, poor welding on the rear suspension toe links could break easily. It leads to a loss of steering and has already resulted in at least one crash, injuring one person. Anyone who owns one of the suspect vehicles should notify Ford. Dealers will be able to make the fixes for owners, replacing the toe links and aligning the suspension. As you would expect, Ford is meeting the cost for any car owner whose vehicle is suffering from the suspension issue. The second recall is for a transmission fault in cars, SUVs and pickup trucks. Many models are thought to be affected, including the F-150 from 2011 and 2012 – one of the auto company’s most popular sellers. Other models will be getting a recall, too. These include the Mustang, the Lincoln Navigator, and the Expedition. All vehicles are from 2011 or 2012. The transmission in the vehicles is failing and causing the cars to downshift all the way down to first gear. Ford say that the issue is down to a below par output speed sensor, which isn’t working as it should and can develop a fault. We reached out to transmission experts AAMCO, who told us this could slow the car down quickly without warning. If it happens at the wrong time, it could result in a fatal accident. There have been a few reports of the failure, but, so far, it has not been responsible for any injury. Ford will put all vehicles in recall through a thorough repair process. All cars will get an update on their control module software. Some may also get a new lead frame, depending on how deep the problem lies. While this all sounds like bad news, there is an upside for any car owner whose vehicle gets recalled. The new parts will receive a ten-year warranty, or a 150,000 mile guarantee; whichever occurs first. The auto giant is also issuing recalls for several other vehicles, although the issues are relatively minor. 40 units of the 2016 Ford Fusion need the bracket welding replaced on driver-side seats. Owners of the Ford Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Mercury Sable should also be wary. Nearly 200 of those models built in 2007 to 2012 will undergo a fix to the driver-side air bag modules. Finally, 2,600 of the 2016 Ford F-Series Super Duty may have tire damage from the manufacturing process. All vehicles will need checking – visit the Ford website for more details.  Ford-Total-Recall
