Aston Martin Unleashes The Force With The AM-BR 001 Hypercar
Auto News
This is what Adrian Newey, Formula One design genius, does when he gets bored with F1. He fulfils a long held ambition to design and develop a road car. But this isn’t any ordinary road car it’s a joint collaboration with Aston Martin. This is the AM-BR 001 super-hypercar. There is no advanced hybrid/exotic technology lurking in the engine bay. Adrian Newey believes hybrid electrical power adds weight, increases bulk, delivers it’s energy in short bursts and has a superfluous use. So the AM-BR 001 is fairly straight forward, it’s a V12 powered monster but crucially with a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Aston-Martin-AMBR-001-FS Figuratively speaking it’s going to offer 1,000bhp per ton and weigh just under 1,000kg or at least that’s the target weight. The chassis is forged from carbon-fibre as is the bodywork and Newey has used his F1 acumen to ensure the AM-BR 001 generates “ground effect” downforce through an underfloor aerodynamic solution, so no need for a huge rear wing. Aston-Martin-AMBR-001-Profile The AM-BR 001 may look like a LMP1 LeMans prototype however the brief maintained that it had to be a usable every day proposition. There will be a track focused variant on offer. Even so the ‘standard’ roadcar will feature a seating position borrowed from a Formula One cockpit. There will also be enough room for a passenger seat. The AM-BR 001 is designed from the ground up with a “clean sheet of paper” and shares no components with any other of Aston Martin’s road going cars. Aston-Martin-AMBR-001-Rear The suspension and transmission were developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies. Newey opted for the V12 over a lighter V10 because the latter typically generates harsher vibrations under acceleration. The AM-BR 001 will be a joint development and engineering project between Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Aston Martin. The AM-BR 001 will be built at the company’s Gaydon production HQ in Warwickshire, which is just off Junction 12 on the M40. Only 99 examples will built and each one is expected to cost between £2m and £3m GBP. There are already ques forming as we speak.  Aston-Martin-AMBR-001-Front
