This Is Not The 570GT It’s The New McLaren GT
Auto News

Initially, we thought the new McLaren GT wasn’t new because we believed it to be another 570 Sports Series derivative. In a way, it is and isn’t. It uses the same 720S chassis. But the McLaren GT is new, not new. The design is kind-of-like a marriage of the 570 and 720S. The problem was or rather is that the Sports Series already has a 570GT so what is the purpose of the new McLaren GT? The big difference is more power. You can also think of it as a 720S derivative with new bodywork.

The New McLaren GT features an uprated 4.0-litre twin-turbo McLaren built V8. The more power translates into 611bhp more power, and 620Nm more power.

That more power-power will accelerate the McLaren GT from 0-62mph in 3.1 seconds. Prospective owners will be able to reach a top speed of 203mph. But the McLaren isn’t just about more power-power.

The GT suffix is where the real power-power lies. The true power is in the ride comfort. The ability to deliver you in prime condition after a say, 400-mile journey.

The new Proactive Damping Control suspension system (an evolution of the that found in the 720S) provides The comfort. With the shift to electronic steering systems, McLaren has opted to keep a somewhat traditional electro-hydraulic steering system to deliver (SIC) “renowned McLaren driving dynamics”.

The Carbon fibre structure and aluminium body panels underpin 405PS-per-tonne power-to-weight ratio; new 620PS 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 with 630Nm and broad, flat torque curve to ensure seamless, relentless acceleration

McLaren says the GT has optimised braking at lower speeds. The standard brakes consist of Cast iron discs (367mm front; 354mm rear) and calipers (4-piston front & rear). Carbon ceramic discs with forged aluminium calipers are available as an option.

GT by name, GT by designation. The McLaren GT is all about comfort. This new model retains the minimalist luxury of all McLaren Automotive models. The infotainment software has been upgraded and you can be sure, customers will get a lot of optional extras.

What the McLaren GT is really about… is stowage. Total stowage capacity of 570 litres with rear luggage bay accessed via front-hinged, full-length glazed rear tailgate, available electrically powered; room for bags as well as golf clubs or skis.

You want one now, don’t you? You’ll have to wait. The order books are now open with first deliveries scheduled for December 2019. But make sure you find £163,000 first.
