We’re not fans of the convertible vehicle type… any type whether it a £15k Vauxhall to a £300k Bentley. But there is one car we would gladly wear a paper bag over our heads for and we would make sure there were holes cut out so that we could gaze on its ethereal style. The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante Zagato is one such car. Aston Martin unveiled this ode to open top motoring at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the U.S. over the weekend. Only 99 models will be made and current word on the street is that each of those Vanquish Volante Zagatos will cost close to $600,ooo. That is surely a lot of money to pay for the wind in your hair experience, but there should never be a limit to pay for such effortless style. The Vanquish Volante Zagato is based on the standard Vanquish coupe but with a number of enhanced design elements that differentiate from its sibling. The rear end styling, fog lights, side strakes, side sills and front and rear diffuser all get a more aggressive look. But it’s the Zagato ‘heritage’ front grille that stands out as the biggest design change. The interior is more or less copy and paste from the current Vanquish but expect a few Zagto logos peppered here and there. The rear tails light are Vulcan inspired and this Vanquish Volante Zagato will probably be the last Aston to use a naturally aspirated 5.9-litre V12 powerplant. However Aston have upped the power ratings of the V12 from 568bhp to 597bhp meaning it is seriously quick, the 0-60mph time of 3.7 seconds is rather ungentlemanly for an Aston. Or is it?
