There is a reason why Nascar is America’s most watch race car series. The crashes, American’s of a certain income level like nothing better than deep frying whole chickens and eating burgers bigger than a dinner plate. And the dinner plates are rather large in the land of the free.
Nascar is glorified stock car racing typically featuring professional race car drivers. Founded in the 1930’s it’s evolved to become series business for the family run enterprise.
The top ten teams are worth on average of £148 million dollars and the sport generated a combined revenue of $1bn dollars in 2015.
By comparison Formula One, which is the most watched sports series in the world, generates about $2bn dollars of revenue each year.
However Formula One’s viewing figures are in decline while Nascar is mainly a made for America race series. We look back at Nascar’s greatest hits, quite literally.
