This is the Renault Trezor concept. With it’s wrap around windowscreen creating a semi floating roof effect, set in desolate countryside that only drug dealers and serial killers would use, the Trezor concept is just that… a concept. As we always say concepts are rarely turned into production volumes due to a number of factors, the main one being cost and making a return on a limited edition production run.
That said automotive concepts still have a purpose, to showcase advanced technology to stunning effect and also to allow the design stylists to let their imaginations flow. And the Renault Trezor does all that and more.
The body is entirely forged from carbon-fibre and the method of propulsion is borrowed directly from Renault’s current Formula E race car. That is to say the fully electric engine develops 350bhp and 380Nm of torque and can dah from 0-60mph in a useful 4.5 seconds.
But don’t expect the Trezor to weigh the same as a Formula E car, it actually weighs a lardy 1,600kg, which is quite excessive for a two seat sports coupe.
But Trezor is a concept car and it needs a to have a party piece, it does. The roof and bonnet are made from one piece and must be lifted to allow for access into the drivers cockpit. It’s a roof door so to speak.
The Trezor also features a fully autonomous driving mode but Renault say this technology won’t be fully ready on road cars until around 2020.
The Trezor’s cockpit features a dash made from ‘Gorilla Glass’ with a subtly curved OLED panel, OLED offers lower power consumption, increased brightness/colour/contrast and are just superior in every way the current LED-LCD screens.
But don’t expect the Trezor ever to be made available for public consumption, concept cars are designed purely for marketing and publicity stunts. Maybe just maybe a small element of the Trezor will filter down to the next Renault Crap Special Edition.
