Das Ist Gut! The Top German Supercars Of 2016
Features
Germany the land of the beer hall putsch, Apple Strudel, Neo-Fascism, Beer Festivals, Bach and Jägerspätzle usually comes out on top when it comes to making refined supercars. Their engineering is world renowned and their standards are famously high, OCD level high. Conversely most of the German cars you see on the road are a tad business-like and boring. So, what do these manufacturers have to offer, for true petrol heads? This isn’t a roundup of the best cars to come out of Germany, this year. It’s a look at the top of the range cars which these companies have to offer. Although out of the price range of most normally carbuyers, these cars deserve some to mentioned.
  • The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe
german-supercars-mercedes-amg-gts Mercedes are well-known for their business saloons and family estates, and occasionally their coupes. Of course, Mercedes is a hard hitter when it comes to luxury and performance. When it comes to fast, luxury, performance the AMG GT3 model clocks in at a whopping top speed of 206 mph.  The handling across the range is muscle car good not what you would expect from a Mercedes. This is no yank tank though it is more precise thanks to Mercedes’s advanced engineering know how. It’s certainly an eyecatcher. The sweeping curves and angry grill make for a stunning car. But, when you’re driving, the outside doesn’t really matter. Mercedes know that the interior is just as important as the exterior, and as such, the inside of the GT Coupe is gorgeous. As for specifications, the car isn’t lacking. The car has a 4.0L, biturbo V8 as standard; that can be upgraded with options. This provides the car with 456 horses worth of power; that’s filled with 600Nm of torque. The car will hit more than 190 miles an hour and can hit 60mph in 4 seconds. The only real problem being fuel economy; you’ll only get 25 miles to the gallon in the city, and it’s not much better on open roads. If you want to get your hands on an AMG GT Coupe, you’ll need some dosh. These cars will set you back at least £95,000 new, and that’s without any options. You can use the Mercedes website to find your local dealership or use sites like autotrader.com to find a used one.
  • The Porsche GT3 RS
german-supercars-porsche-911-gt3rs Porsche has been making lightning fast cars for decades, and have a lot of experience when it comes to making things move with haste. This car will hit 193 mph with ease and can launch you to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. This might sound scary, but Porsche has invested a lot of time into the aerodynamics on this car. In conjunction with the computers they already use to aid handling, Porsche has tirelessly tweaked and tested the car. This has resulted in an extremely free flowing car; that stays glued to the road. If a Merc isn’t showy enough for you, the 911 GT3 RS should definitely fill the gap. As standard, it comes in bright orange and looks more at home on the track than on your drive. The car is instantly recognizable as a 911, which will appeal to a lot of people. Much like the Mercedes, the 911 sports a 4.0L V8. But, this one produces 500bhp, which is a massive jump. This extra power can be found in the car’s ability to take off, beating the 0 – 60 time of the Merc by almost an entire second. But, with more power, you use more fuel. The 911 will struggle to get 20 miles to the gallon, even at the best of times. The 911 GT3 RS has a recommended retail price of £130,000, making it a lot more expensive than the Mercedes. A lot of people will be happy to pay this price, for the added prestige of the Porsche badge, though. To find yourself one of these stunning cars, look at companies like Synter Porsche, or use the official site to find your local dealership.
  • The BMW 6 Series Coupe
german-supercars-bmw-m6-gran-coupe For a more down to earth option, BMW has the answer. BMW have always been exalted, due to their overall performance and great engines. Although, a lot of their cars are quite bland and look like an extended briefcase. But, not the 6 Series Coupe or Gran Coupe Both are as fast as they are stunning to look at. Opt for the M6 version and they will be as expensive as they are stuning to look at. All BMW’s feature same distinctive large kidney grills and Hofmiester kink which have been a staple diet in BMW design language. Most people either love or hate the way a beamer looks, so you probably already have a good idea of your opinion. The M6 version has the largest and most powerful engine we’ve looked at. With a twinturbo 4.4L BMW V8, clocking in at 560 bhp and a massive 677Nm of torque. The various models of the car all float around the 4-second mark, to get to 60 mph. By default, the car is electronically limited to 155 mph. Derestricted the M6 can can reach an 190 mph. BMW now offers a Competition Package that adds 15 extra horsepower (for a total of 575), new coil springs and stiffer anti-sway bars. Bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels and a sport exhaust system that features four black chrome tips finish off the treatment. BMW is a premium luxury brand and are equally as expensive as Mercedes or Porsche, and you can pick up a new M6 Coupe or Gran Coupe £95,000 which makes it the cheapest model in this trio of supercars. Yes £95k is cheap. BMWs are one of the more common premium luxury brands to be found second hand as well! Loads of BMW dealerships are around, like Eastern Western New BMW, so you won’t struggle to find them. Just use the BMW site to find their recommended dealers. So, there’s a look at the top range cars the three biggest German car manufacturers have to offer. It would be wrong not to include the Audi R8, at least as an honourable mention. The R8 is a really popular alternative to the cars above, and it’s made by another German company. You may know them as Audi.    german-supercars-brandenburg-gate
