Using the Streets of San Francisco as a proving ground Volvo and Uber have teamed up to bring the future of autonomous driving to the present day. Don’t raise your eyes in surprise (and you know that rhymes) because this is the first baby step into a bigger world.
But you might have to wait a little longer because before it even made a baby step regulators in California demanded Uber and Volvo to cease the joint operation immediately.
You see both companies failed to get the required permits from California’s Department of Motors. Meaning they did not apply at all… For any permits.
Volvo does operate autonomous testing in Pittsburgh however for a company that markets itself with a safety first image this flouting of regulations is lax to say the least.
