What Can We Expect From The Cars Of CES 2017?
Auto News

The Consumer Electronics Show 2017 will be the biggest technology event of the year, and what comes out of it will be discussed pretty much solidly until the arrival of the next show in a year’s time. In the past, CES was dominated by tech firms showcasing their latest devices. But over the last few years, it’s been cars that have taken center stage as the entire industry becomes more technological.

This year most of the big players will be making an appearance as well as some new ones. Here’s what to expect from the likes of BMW, Faraday Future, and Hyundai.

BMW

When the BMW i8 made an appearance at CES, it had an enormous impact on the car industry and what was meant by a performance electric vehicle. It was a watershed moment for mainstream players, like BMW, who realized that their disruptive and annoying competitor, Elon Musk had a point about electric cars.

This year, BMW isn’t bringing a car. Instead, it’s arguably showing off something far more profound: a new in-car control concept that’ll change the way we interact with our cars in the future, In the past, people crudely prodded buttons on their dashboards to get their cars to do what they wanted them to do. But this year, BMW is going to show off a new system that relies solely on the driver’s hand movements. It’s called the Holo Active Touch system, and it’s based on a free floating display that’s an upgrade of what BMW brought to the show back in 2014. The gestures are simpler, as well as the interface.

Ford

Ford’s aim at CES this year is to reduce the chances that drivers of their vehicles will need to make an injury claim. Ford has said that it will be bringing the latest version of its high-tech Fusion hybrid. This one will feature more processing power than older models and better sensors making it more aware of its environment and able to predict dangerous situations on the road ahead.

Hyundai

Hyundai has been pretty tight-lipped about what they’ll be bringing to this year’s show. In a statement, the company said that it would be focusing on future technologies in connectivity, personal mobility, autonomous driving and environmentally friendly transportation.

Faraday Future

Faraday Future have a big year ahead of them. Right now there’s a lot of speculation that the electric car startup might be about to go out of business so CES could be make or break for the company. Recently, they teased a video of their top-of-the-line electric sports car in a drag race with the Tesla Model S P100D. The video showed that their vehicle could out-accelerate the Tesla in a drag race – no mean feat, given that the Tesla Model S is the second fastest accelerating car in the world, just behind the Bugatti Chiron.

Unfortunately, the company’s executives have said that their new car might not be revealed at CES 2017 thanks to various people leaving the team. But we shall wait and see.
