Protecting Your Vehicle Against The Elements
Features
Robust as modern cars may be, the harsh weather can sometimes takes its toll. Depending on where you live in the world, this time of the year can be particularly hard on your vehicle. Constant exposure to rain, wind and the occasional hit of snow can start to weather away at your car. For those wanting to save money on repairs, here are the prevention methods that you should consider taking. Reinforce rubber Having a set of winter tyres handy to use in the snow will not only make your driving safer but also prevent tyre wear. The freezing temperature can cause rubber to become more prone to damage, as well as decreasing tyre pressure. Whilst winter tyres still need to be well-inflated, they’re less likely to develop chips and rubber damage. You should also keep an eye on your windscreen wipers, as the rubber pads can also wear in the cold. Protect your paint Rain, wind and snow can cause rust to develop on your car. Road salt is the biggest cause of this, which can be guarded against with car paint protection. A DIY alternative is baking soda, although smearing this over your car every time it’s been exposed to road salt may becoming a little time-consuming. For pre-existing rust, you’re best of using sandpaper, repainting and then using a sealant. Invest in your interior For those constantly getting into their cars wet with boots covered in road salt, your interior could start to develop damage. Lumps of snow in the footwell could chew through carpets and eventually rot out floorboards. Whilst there are many rubber mats available, you’re best buying a special weatherproof mat that will resist wear and tear. For delicate upholstery, you can also buy weatherproof seat covers. Keep the battery warm The fluid inside your car battery will freeze up in the winter if your vehicle is not regularly taken for a spin. If you don’t want to keep taking your vehicle out for a daily drive, you can invest in a thermal car battery warmer. To tackle de-charging, which can also be a result of not running your car regularly, many invest in a solar charger for their car battery to keep it powered up. Shelter your car when parked Parking your vehicle in a garage, especially one which is heated, may avoid you having to deal with any of the prior prevention methods. However, not all of us are lucky to own a property with a garage, and renting out containers can be expensive. Fortunately, there are other methods of sheltering one’s car. Waterproof car covers can come tailored to your vehicle and may be a less expensive option than renting a garage. You can also get makeshift tarpaulins that work much the same way as a garage, although you do have to have the space to erect these. Such covers can provide not only waterproofing, but also UV protection for those in hotter climates wanting to guard against fading paint.  Vehicle-Tips-Persephony
