The name sounds right even if a 17-foot long SUV sounds wrong but Subaru think the Behemoth that is the Ascent Concept will make more sense to its US customer base which likes pickups and large SUVs. The Ascent was first previewed at the LA Auto Show in late 2016. Fast forward to last week and its been revealed for the final time at the New York international Auto Show as perhaps an understudy to a full blown production ready and rather mahoosive 8 seater SUV. Subaru does rather well in the US and because the US population is stereotypical seen as a land of the fat perhaps those same cynics are thinking the Ascent will be just about right for potential customers in the land of the free. Subaru aim to get the Ascent showroom ready for 2018 and hope to give the likes of Toyota, Honda, Neesan, Chevrolet, Ford et-al a run for their collective money. The Ascent will not only up the exterior quality but it will aim to up-up the interior quality. Indeed the interior at first looked like an expensive reality, however the futuristic leather clad interior is going to be an expensive reality, before we realised it actually is a concept study. The Ascent will be built upon Subaru’s latest globalist platform, because compact and mid-sized SUVs are money spinners the Ascent wont make it to mainland Europe. While the Ascent is US bound only we know absolutely nothing about price and spec nor the precise nature of the engine line up other than to say it may well use a 280bhp, 4-cylinder, 2.4-litre boxer engine. On style alone we think Subaru may well be onto a winner here.
