The roof mechanism folds away at a 90degree angle, the roof is designed to segment vertically into a Z-shape without compromising on storage space.
Everything else remains as is, it still uses the same 1.5-litre hybrid engine that powers the rear wheels while two electric motors powering each of the front wheels.
One thing that has changed is the increase in electric power by 12bhp to 143bhp, the total system power produces a combined 374bhp. This allows a 0-62-mph dash of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
Extra strengthening increases the i8 Roadster’s weight by 60kg to a total of 1595kg, heavy for a car is primarily made from carbon reinforced plastic.
As options go the highlight for the i8 Roadster has to be the laser headlights which have a range of 600 meters.
On sale from January 2018, prices for the BMW i8 Coupé starts at £112,730 OTR and the Roadster is priced from £124,730 OTR.
