After Dieselgate Mercedes is Now A Born Again Electric Car Maker With The EQS
Auto News

With the launch of the EQS Mercedes has begun its journey on the pathway to becoming an electric carmaker. But it is a pathway they were forced to tread because their direct and deceitful involvement in dieselgate was their Little Big Horn. Mercedes, along with their partners in crime, we’re told to change or die by the German government. And if untrustworthy politicians are disgusted with you then you know you have hit the bottom of the barrel. And Mercedes, armed with nothing other than smiling corporate executives dressed in bespoke $2000 business suits has gone from polluters, one could also add murderers, (many thousands of vulnerable people knowingly died as a direct result from toxic diesel emissions) to forcibly embracing electric cars.

Let’s be honest, if Mercedes could ride on the back of diesel and petrol car sales for another 200 years tomorrow, they would jump at the chance. But as we all know they are mandated to make the ball-and-chain switch from fossil-fueled cars to full electric. The switch has already begun. And now the Mercedes EQS luxury sedan joins the company’s small but growing electric car lineup. And at this early adoption stage prices are expensive. The EQS starts at $124K for the entry-level 245 kW EQS 450+. For now, it is only available in Germany.

The more powerful 385 kW EQS 580 4Matic has an asking price of $158K. The range is expected to be a rather optimistic 770km/485 miles. The limited and fully loaded Edition 1 model costs an eye-watering $180K. Key highlights include Obsidian Black metallic paint, AMG Line exterior trim, 21-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather interior and walnut trim elements. Expect a premium sound system to blow the bloody doors open.

The interior features the classy looking all-in-one glass hyperscreen dash that incorporates a passenger touchscreen interface, a central infotainment system and a digital driver’s binnacle. It’s like a giant smartphone. And Mercedes decided to steal an idea from Tesla by adding digital puzzle games such as Tetris and Sudoku.

Electric cars are now seen as digital products, a mobile smartphone if you will, and that means EQS owners will get over-the-air software updates.
