Audi A1 Second Generation, All New From The Ground Up
Auto News

I thought the old first generation Audi A1 was already new because it didn’t seem to age. It lasted for a total of 9 years, continual design styling and equipment updates meant it always seemed like a new… generation. However, 9 years is a long time in the modern automotive product cycle and this year is the year of the second generation A1.

The second generation Audi A1 is all new from the ground up. It looks more mature and like all new generations is slightly bigger and wider than before. Presumably to accommodate the extra girth Germans gain at the yearly Octoberfest. The small hatch will be available in 3 and five-door body styles and will feature an array of familiar engines. Standard equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphone integration, Sat Nat and a touchscreen infotainment system. If you want the Audi Virtual Cockpit ( which includes integrated Sat-Nav display and fancy animations) then you are going to have to head on over to the options spec sheet. Same goes for the bigger 10.01-inch touchscreen… and the Bang & Olufsen sound system. The spec is always determined by what trim level you go for. Which means you have to spend more money, more money, more money. However modern day cars are being fitted with technology that used to be available only to luxury car buyers. So the A1 will come fitted with Adaptive Speed Assits, Park Assits Lane Depearture and Audi Pre Sense Front as standard. Initially the Audi A1 will be offered with the 30 TFSI 1.0-litre 114bhp engine. The 4-cylinder 1.5-litre, 148bhp and 2.0-litre 197bhp TFSi will follow later on in 2019. Audi will offer all cars with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch auto. The A1 is on sale in the UK now, entry-level SE models start at £18k. Top Spec S-Line models will cost £23k before options.
