Well, the electric car scene just got interesting as Volvo revealed the Polestar 2. Polestar is a stand-alone, exclusive electric car brand. In actuality it is owned by and operated by Volvo. Prices are set to start at around £34k in the UK. Polestar 2 is the second car to be revealed by the company.

If you want a top spec Polestar 2 then be prepared to pay at least £51k. The future fully electric compact sedan utilises Volvo’s Compact Modular Platform. In other words it’s based on the Volvo XC40.

The 0-62mph time takes less than 5 seconds thanks to 402bhp and 487Ib ft of torque (660Nm). Two electric motors provide the power and are mounted across the front and rear axles.

As with all electric car designs the battery pack is integrated into floor/chassis. Volvo claims a range of 311miles per charge. Always be wary of these manufacture claims.

Polestar 2 will borrow technology seen on current Volvo’s. So expect to see their excellent semi-autonomous driving tech, Pilot Assist etc.

One interesting feature is the ability to use your smartphone as a virtual key to unlock your vehicle.

The infotainment system will use a fully integrated Google Android system.

Polestar 2 is available for pre-order right now. But you’ll have to wait until July 2020 before first deliveries commence.
