Wrongfully Accused Carlos Ghosn Files $17m Lawsuit Against Nissan Mitsubishi
Auto News

The arrest and ousting of former Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi overlord, one Carlos Ghosn, has taken yet another twist. The former automotive CEO strongman is set to sue both Nissan and Mitsubishi for $16m USD for gross negligence. Ghosn was removed from his position after being charged and arrested in Japan over corporate corruption. Lawyers representing Ghosn say grave errors were made when he was sacked.

Ghosn’s lawyer, lawyer Laurens de Graaf, said in a recent interview:

“In the Netherlands, if you want to fire an executive you have to first tell him what he’s being accused of. And you have to provide him with the evidence for the accusations. Neither of those things has happened”

The holding company for the former alliance is registered in the Netherlands. Because Ghosn is taking Nissan and Mitsubishi on from the perspective of employment law Dutch authorities are compelled to take a look into the matter.

The former CEO is also a tax domicile of the corporate tax-friendly Netherlands. Ghosn denies all charges of embezzlement, financial misconduct, and nepotism. He is currently on bail in Japan after paying $4.5m and is monitored under a strict license.

Ghosn has been accused of raking up an $11m expense account on top of improperly receiving $9m USD in compensation when he formed the Nissan Mitsubishi alliance.
