Polestar 2 Is As Good As The Tesla Model 3 Says Polestar Boss…errmm no it isn’t
Auto News

As of now the only mid-size electric car you should consider is the Tesla Model 3. Indeed if any of us here at DCB HQ had a choice between the Polestar 2 or the Tesla Model 3 we wouldn’t choose the dog. We’d go for the Tesla Model 3. So why is that? Tesla has a better electric car powertrain, its more advanced and their fast-charging network infrastructure is already far bigger and growing. You can easily go from London to Scotland in a Tesla Model 3 and never run of electric power because along the way Tesla has been clever in establishing a sprawling fast-charging network.

As for Polestar, which is a Volvo pure electric spin-off, it’s a reasonable alternative to the Tesla Model 3. But in reality, the Polestar 2 is at the first stage of its product lifecycle. Which means it is less advanced than the Tesla Model 3. Tesla has had years to make mistakes, learn and advance their knowledge. Polestar is taking its first steps. And that’s why for us Tesla is the defacto leader in the pure electric car market.

How long that lead will last is anyone’s guess, other electric car makers will catch up and Tesla is aware of that for sure. Tesla’s build quality has come into question, but personally, I am willing to put up with a few dodgy panel gaps to get behind the wheel of the most advanced electric car you can buy right now.

Even Polestar’s boss is admitting Tesla is ahead of the curve. With the launch of the all-electric Polestar 2 not too far away, Polestar COO, Jonathan Goodman, said in a recent interview:

“I think the equipment, the fit, the finish of the car (Polestar 2) are exceptional. And I think it makes a wonderful alternative to the highly successful Tesla Model 3. Dimensionally, it’s pretty similar to a Tesla Model 3 and I think it creates an alternative and joins the competition in and around it where there hasn’t been much. We happen to believe it’s a great alternative, but I think that’s for the customer to come in and have a look and decide.”

Here’s what the statement really means. The Polestar 2 is not as good as the Tesla Model 3, but you should consider it. Instead of beating the Polestar 2’s drum, instead of talking about range, charge time, charging infrastructure Goodman is effectively saying the Model 3 is better than the Polestar 2. But he does add the Polestar 2 will come equipped with a data-gathering Google Andriod based infotainment system.

Our advice is if you are looking for an electric car and are considering the Polestar 2 and or the Tesla Model 3, don’t go for the dog, go for the Model 3. We’re not being paid by Tesla to big up the Tesla brand. And we’re certainly not trying to glad-hand Tesla with positivity in order to gain favorable access (fuck you Tesla). It’s just plain to see, Tesla offers the better product at a better price.
