Plucky Chinese owned British brand MG is walking fast-paced into the future with a plucky plug-in hybrid variant of the MG HS SUV. The ordinary MG HS starts from £17k for UK buyers and is available in 5 trim levels either with a 6-speed manual or automatic. UK buyers are currently limited to one engine, the inline-four 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine producing 169hp
An inline four 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 231hp is not yet available for the UK market. The plug-in hybrid variant is expected to arrive in UK showrooms in late Q4, 2020. The MG eHS 500 PHEV went on sale in China in mid-November. That car is powered by the 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 121bhp electric motor.
The combined system power of 301bhp will be channeled through a ten-speed automatic gearbox. MG claims that the eHS 500 will have a pure electric range of 47 miles, courtesy of 16.6kWh batteries and a 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds.
UK pricing has yet to be revealed but taking into account various tariffs the UK spec MG eHS 500 is expected to have an entry-level starting price of £27k.
