The New Kia Sorento, Bigger, Stronger, Hybridized
Auto News

This is the all-new, new looking, mid-size Kia Sorento. It’s slightly bigger, slightly longer than before and offers improved interior space and comfort. The underlying monocoque chassis now offers a stronger and stiffer body, meaning improved ride and handling. The 4th generation exterior styling is an evolution of what has gone before. The new interior is said to offer improved refinement with the introduction of premium quality materials and includes, what Kia refers to, cutting edge infotainment technologies.

The Sorento is the first vehicle to be based on Kia’s new-generation midsize SUV platform. Paired with a larger body to maximise cargo and luggage space, Kia’s intended goal is to ensure the all-new platform is one of the most versatile and spacious three-row SUVs on the road.

Kia is also introducing what it calls ‘Smartstream’, a range of electrified powertrains – the first time that hybrid power has featured in the Sorento line-up. Kia claims the new model offers greater fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and higher performance than its predecessors.

Kia promises the new Sorento will be it’s most high-tech car ever, thanks to its improved connectivity, driver assistance and infotainment technologies. The win digital displays deliver a new graphical UI, new telematics features and smartphone connectivity.

The interior introduces next-generation design, based around twin digital displays in the dashboard. The 12.3-inch digital driver instrument cluster is twinned with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system at the centre of the dashboard.

At launch the all new Kia Sorento will be powered by a 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a new Hybrid model. Kia will eventually introduce more hybrid and or plug-in hybrid variants.

The Sorento Hybrid pairs a 1.6-litre T-GDi (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) with a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and 44.2kW electric motor. Total system power equates to 230ps and 350Nm torque. Power is sent through the six-speed automatic transmission.

The new generation Kia Sorento will offer the latest generation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems with new Remote Smart Parking Assist. Pricing and specifications will be revealed when the Sorento arrives in UK dealerships from around late Q3.
