Spied: 2020 BMW 5 Series Facelift
Auto News

The current-gen BMW 5 Series (G38) is getting a bit old in terms of product evolution. And now 3 years after it launched the 5 Series is getting a number of minor design, technology, and mechanical updates. It has yet to be officially revealed, however, it has been spied going about its business as the above image reveals. Cars typically have what is known as a Product Lifecycle. The typical lifecycle for a car is 7-8 years.

There are many reasons for this. Technology changes and or new regulations come into play be they crash protection or environmental. It’s all about moving with the times. But there is another reason, and often it’s about competition and sales. Updates enliven consumer interest and ensure the sales curve does not dip significantly for the duration of the product lifecycle.

Mid-lifecycle pdates are often limited to a new set of headlight and bumper designs. Engineering updates will be limited to unlocking the engine’s CPU – be they petrol/diesel/hybrid – to improve power and efficiency by around 2-5 percent.

Word on the street is that the BMW 5 Series will gain the latest 12.3-inch infotainment system. In addition to an increased selection of upholstery and trim. So, all-in-all the usual to be expected mid-cycle updates.
