Did you know that compact hatchbacks accounted for nearly 28% of European C-segment sales in 2019? If that stat bores you to death then prepared to be electrified, quite literally. Behold, the all-new Citroen e-C4 and C4, a new-generation 100 percent electric and conventionally powered compact crosssover. The new e-C4 and conventional C4 is offered in electric, petrol or diesel deriviatives. Potential new customers now have a choice of saving the planet or destroying it into oblivion.
The new Citroen e-C4 and conventionally powered C4 represents a design departure from the frumpy looking old hatch. It’s now a crossover, not quite a car, not quite an SUV, somewhere in between. The ‘normal’ C4 will be powered by Citroen’s current crop of petrol and diesel powertrains, from 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel with power ranging from 75bhp to 100bhp-130bhp.
But the real news of interest is the all-electric eC4, it will make use of a 50kWh battery, poached from the Peugeot e208, which will give a useful 136bhp and 300Nm torque. Now, Citroen will probably up the power, the eC4 is bigger than the e208 hatch, and it will probably have a longer range, beyond 217 miles.
While all of the above is speculative we do know both the Citroen eC4 and conventional C4 will offer Advanced Comfort seats and suspension featuring Progressive Hydraulic Cushions. And a new simplified interior design language utilising Citroen’s latest in-car tech and infotainment systems.
In other words, we don’t know too much at this stage other than the official news we are being fed. We do know for certain that Citroen will reveal more details regarding availability and price on June 30th.
