Aston Martin has become embroiled in the most stupidest controversy all of its own making. The Guardian recently reported that the maker of luxury performance sports cars commissioned a climate study that cast doubt on the carbon footprint of electric vehicles. The study claims electric vehicles have to accumulate 50,000 miles before matching the carbon footprint of fossil-fuel-powered cars. The study was released after the UK government set a 2030 deadline to ban the sales of new petrol and diesel cars.
The study was later found to be factually incorrect, which is a polite way of saying it was packed full of lies. It has been widely discredited. But the stupidity of Aston Martin doesn’t end there. The fabricated report was the work of a mysterious London based PR firm that was later found to belong to the wife of Aston Martin’s government affairs director, James Stephens. In other words, Aston Martin commissioned the report. Read the Guardian article to fully understand the mess.
Now it is time to rant.
Is this the best you can do Aston Martin? All you had to do was lobby the government for a special license in the post-2030 electric vehicle age. The license would have given you a special dispensation to continue the production of your fossil fuel-powered sports cars. And this is the research you should have undertaken. Simple research such as comparing the carbon footprint of a typical Aston Martin owner to a Ford Fiesta owner or a driver of a fleet car. You would have found the latter two emit the most CO2 over a 1 year or three year period. You idiots.
Let’s assume the average Aston Martin owner covers around 2,000 maybe 4,000 miles a year, clearly the carbon footprint is low. You could also argue that because Aston Martin is a low-volume manufacturer the carbon footprint is lower than large-scale electric vehicle production. That’s how you would have secured a license to continue building your expensive dinosaurs.
You total idiots Aston Martin. A tiny little barely known blog like The Daily Car Blog is more capable of better strategic decisions than the overpaid fools you employ.
You absolute debt-loaded morons Aston Martin, sort yourselves out you fucking fools before it’s too late.
