Get Your Driving Permit With These Tips
Features

There’s nothing like driving your first car. If you’re a teenager who is now of age to drive, we understand how excited you are to hop in the car and hit the road. However, just because you are now of age does not mean that you can automatically drive around. First, you’ll have to obtain a learner’s permit, then a license.

Let’s take it step by step. Just be patient and follow the process. You’ll soon be able to drive on your own.

Requirements for a Driving Permit

The first thing you must do is to apply for a driving permit. The requirements may vary depending on which state you are applying. The best thing to do is to go to your local DMV office or to visit their official website and check the requirements there.

Once you have gathered the requirements, submit an application. Some states also allow you to apply for a permit online. The common requirements include providing a proof of identity, taking an eyesight exam, paying the fees, and passing a DMV written test.

Passing the Test

To get your driving permit, you need to pass the test first. You need to take this seriously. Many people fail the exam on the first try, mainly because they did not prepare for it.

Here are some steps to follow to prepare for and pass the written test:

1. Study the DMV handbook.

When studying for the test, you need to concentrate on the DMV handbook. It contains your state’s driving laws, traffic laws, and other things you need to know. Pay extra attention to basic driving skills and etiquette, road signs and symbols, and other pertinent driving laws. You don’t have to memorize everything, but you need to read the handbook through, make notes, and study the important sections there by heart.

2. Familiarize vehicle parts and functions.

It’s also important to gather first-hand practical knowledge above vehicle parts and their function. This helps you have a firmer grasp of what you have studied. A good way to do this is to observe your parents drive. You can also have them explain how each car part works: the brake, turn signals, headlights, and others.

3. Enroll in a driver’s education course.

Taking classes will help you get to know more about driving. At the driver’s education class, they will teach you about how cars work, the traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving techniques, among others. Some public schools in your locality may offer special classes for students.

4. Take the test.

Now that you have studied the handbook, took classes, and acquired some practical knowledge, it’s time to take the test. Take a rest before your scheduled written test. Have a good night’s sleep and eat well. Bring the necessary documents needed for the test, such as an ID. When answering the questions, stay relaxed. Don’t panic. Trust in what you know and just answer accordingly.

Once you’ve passed the test, you’ll be given a driving permit. After some time, you will then become eligible for a driver’s license. But leave this for another time. Take one step at a time. For now, just focus on getting your driving permit.
