In the out-of-touch sphere of the automotive media, BMW can do no wrong. For example, the dreadful 1 Series M135i was nothing less than dreadful. But for a motoring journalist intent on gaslighting an audience for the purposes of career progression, the M135i was nothing less than miraculous. We can not say the BMW 2 Series Coupe will be dreadful because we have never driven one. But we can be sure that a motoring journalist looking to extend his (it is often a his) contacts and make a name for himself will indeed eulogize the next-generation 2 Series Coupe for all his worth.
Career progression or not, BMW is conducting final-stage testing of the new 2 Series. And here it is, revealed in all its glory, shrouded in vinyl-wrap camouflage. Detailed testing pertains to the chassis, suspension, and braking systems. BMW is saying the entire body structure is now 12-percent stiffer than before. This is the way for any next-generation car.
Powering the BMW will be electrified/mild-hybrid 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. The M240i Coupe is expected to use a 374bhp straight-six combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The next-gen 2 Series Coupe will use stroke-dependent dampers as standard. Often found in trucks, a stroke-dependent damper is said to improve ride stiffness without compromising the ride quality.
The next-gen BMW 2 Series Coupe will be fully revealed in July. Prices will start from… we don’t know how much.
