What you are seeing here is the new 2022 Kia Sportage. But Kia doesn’t want to reveal too much just yet because they desire to extend the free publicity for as long as possible. In covering this particular story, motoring publications all over the world will unwittingly provide hundreds of millions of dollars worth of publicity to Kia for free… DOH! Anyway, as with all SUV Crossovers, as far as we can ascertain, the new look Sportage becomes Nissan-fied in that the rear looks a bit Nissany. The Global version will debut in Korea, thereafter the picky European market will get a version catered for European tastes.
The current Sportage has done really good business for Kia. It was first launched in Europe in 1993 when most people didn’t even know what a Kia was. The current 4th generation was released in 2015 and now it’s starting age like a iconic Hollywood actor. The Sportage has sold over 1 million times in Europe. A complete refresh is very much needed.
The teaser image reveals a more contemporary design philosophy. Whatever that design philosophy is, perhaps it should be given the name of “it’s about time”. Of notable interest is the interior, the driver’s dash and infotainment system has merged into one giant landscape, slightly curved touchscreen.
Kia will officially reveal the all-new generation Sportage we don’t know when.
