Lewis Hamilton Unconcerned by Rumoured Power Unit Penalties
Formula One

It has been rumored for a while and now the drip-drip of information concerning the state of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes power unit may well become clear at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Mad Dog Helmut Marko has been rain dancing, anything to cast a spell on making the rumors come true. The Red Bull agent of chaos predicted Mercedes was about to enter troubled waters a few weeks ago. The mad dog said he had “information” that Hamilton will change parts on the Mercedes power unit in Brazil but declined to say where this information was sourced.

If the rumors do come to bear fruit then it is the worst moment for Hamilton to change engine parts. Under the current rules doing so will lead to an instant 5 place grid penalty. With a 19 point deficit to his Red Bull rival, Max Verstappen, and with four races remaining, Hamilton can’t afford to lose any more ground at this stage of the drivers championship.

Hamilton denied the rumors during a preliminary press conference at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

“As far as I’m aware my engines are fine, but I will find out later on. I don’t think the engines have even arrived this morning. We haven’t even done an engineering briefing yet.”
