Subaru Reveals The European Solterra EV SUV
Video

Subaru has revealed the European version of the Solterra, a full-electric SUV. It is similar in size to the Forester, slightly wider, slightly longer, slightly lower. But it’s modern times for Subaru as it ditches the boxer engine for batteries. Purists will bemoan the absence of Subaru’s boxer powertrain. But this is now, post dieselgate, this is climate change, this is zero emissions, the reason why the Solterra exists.

Subaru will retain its highly acclaimed Permanent All-Wheel-Drive albeit a fully electric system. The Solterra is actually a joint project with Toyota and it is based on the BZ4X. Almost identical in looks, Toyota provides the chassis and Subaru provides the AWD and various other systems.

The Solterra is powered by two independent 80kW electric motors located on the front and rear axles. Power is rated at 160kw around 160bhp and 350nm of torque. The 0-62mph time takes 7.2 seconds, top speed is, we don’t quite know…

The Solterra is expected to retail for around £40K and is expected to go on sale in the UK in mid-2022.
