Frank Stephenson needs no introduction. But we’ll introduce him anyway. He is a renowned and former transport designer for the likes of Ferarri and of course an ex BMW designer. Indeed Frank the ex BMW designer was responsible for the original BMW X5 design. So if anyone is qualified to give their verdict on BMW’s current design language, it’s Frank Stephenson.

Frank gives us his many years of award-wining automotive design experience by suplex-ing the BMW XM concept. And Frank pulls no punches by labeling the XM as “confusing” and “terrible”. We know BMW HQ will be listening and squirming with disapproval.

Frank slams the design as “OTT” (over the top), a “back-alley personality” and also labels the side profile as “ridiculous” and “cartoonish”. Too many angles doing nothing. The design is so bad that Frank doesn’t even give it a score.
