Engineering Da Vinci Builds A Handmade Ford GT40 From Scratch
Video

When we say he, the engineering Da Vinci, built a Ford GT40 V8 by hand, from scratch, we mean he fabricated every single component. The exception is the replica fiberglass body, which is actually made by Bongarini, France. The ‘he’ is actually a French Youtuber who goes by the stage name of Benjamin Workshop. Benjamin Workshop set about building the car over a four-year period.

The YouTuber filmed and uploaded a timelapse of the entire build which shows the fabrication process in full. He built the entire steel chassis by hand, including the suspension arms. It really is incredible to watch how this engineering Da Vinci goes about his work.

The only aspect of the car he didn’t fabricate was the braking system, but he did make the copper brake pipes. Of course, the V8 engine is a used OEM, but he opted for a complete rebuild by stripping it back and re-assembling it. And he even hand-fabricated the exhaust.

The final product looks and sounds magnificent. Replica GT40 usually rests on pre-built chassis or a donor chassis. A near 10-year-old GT40 replica has an asking price of up to £80K if done well.

However, because of the quality of the workmanship gone into the replica GT40 featured in this video, the asking price could be anything up to £250K.
