Autogefuhl poses the question thus, will the Fisker Ocean stand a chance against the likes of Tesla and other electric car offerings from VW, Ford and Hyundai? The answer is of course yes, the Fisker Ocean is every bit as good an electric car as that offered by its rivals. And much better looking than the VW ID 4. On paper at least.

The issue is thus. Fisker Automotive is essentially a start-up company built on the embers of the Fisker Karma. There is much work to do to go from a 2022 Mobile World Congress show car to production reality.

All new start-up electric car manufacturers are having production issues either not hitting targets or suffering quality control issues. That being said manufacturing of the Fisker Ocean will be outsourced to contract vehicle manufacturer Magna Styer.

The Austrian-based company already contract manufacturers vehicles for the likes of BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Volkswagen etc. The problem for Fisker is scale. It’s highly unlikely the company will meet the intial 50,000 customer target.

Fisker claims to have a pre-order book or 30,000. But there was no mention of pre-order numbers during Autogefuhl’s interview with founder, Henrik Fisker. Media interviews are often friendly and do not seek to ask probing questions.

The Fisker Ocean is a well-executed design, however, the drivetrain tech was not on display, an indicator that things may well be running behind schedule and or financials are on thin ice. We’ll see how the Fisker Ocean story develops.
