If you are a Star Wars fan like all of us here at DCB HQ, you will be preparing ahead of the premiere for the all-new Obi Wan Kenobi movie series, to be streamed on Disney Plus. We have our Disney Plus membership, we have prepared our Tapas and drinks, and were going to sit down and enjoy as the excitement builds for the first episode on May 27. However Volkswagen has other ideas, they just ruined the event by announcing a product placement advertising, marketing-driven ROI, KPi, and data-driven brand collaboration.

Thank you, Volkswagen for ruining the event, for collapsing the excitement in the run-up to the first episode. I don’t want to buy your stupid ID electric van, very few people will. The 1960s are long gone, and reinventing your dieselgate imprinted image in the form of the ID Buzz will not sell this slack-jawed makeover.

Volkswagen, if you really want to invest in a sustainable electric future why are you secretly lobbying governments to prolong the sales of ICE-powered cars? Volkswagen, if you really are enthusiastic about electric vehicles you should have ended the sale of diesel cars in 2015.

Using the Star Wars universe to prop up your image and to take control of the corporate narrative will not work with us. Thank you for ruining our week.

Obi Wan Kenobi is a wise and honorable Jedi Knight. Volkswagen we were looking forward to watching this latest adaptation of the Star Wars universe, but you just ruined it… for all of us!
