The Mercedes AMG One celebrates the 55th anniversary of the performance and sports car AMG brand. The AMG One is a two-seater super sports car forging together the world’s most modern and efficient Formula 1 hybrid drive technology from the race track to the road.
The performance hybrid produces a total output of 782 kW (1063 hp) from one combustion engine and four electric motors, with a top speed capped at 219mph (352 km/h). The 0-62mph time takes just 2.9 seconds.
The extremely complex development was carried out in close cooperation with the Formula 1 experts at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth.
The Mercedes AMG One utilizes a carbon-fibre monocoque and carbon-fibre body to the load-bearing engine/transmission unit, active aerodynamics and the push-rod suspension.
The hypercar features the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive with hybrid-driven rear axle and electrically driven front axle with torque vectoring.
The complex F1 derived mid-mounted 1.6-litre V6 hybrid petrol engine revs to 11,000rpm. The unit comprises one hybrid turbocharged combustion engine with a total of four electric motors. One has been integrated into the turbocharger.
The two 120 kW electric motors on the front axle, which are driven purely electrically, enables individual torque distribution to either wheel for particularly high driving dynamics (“torque vectoring”).
Six drive programs – from purely electric driving to race track mode: Race Safe, Race, EV, Race Plus, Strat 2 (Full power from all motors as in Formula 1 qualifying) and Individual.
The interior features exposed carbon fibre of the monocoque forms a delightful contrast with the material/colour combination of the seat pans in magma grey nappa leather and black DINAMICA microfibre.
The race steering wheel, incorporates a “shift light” display at the top of the steering wheel rim, as is usual in racing cars. The flat-bottomed steering wheel, intergrates AMG steering wheel buttons to activate various functions.
Drive programs modes are intergrated into the steering including the nine-stage AMG Traction Control, the activation of the DRS or the suspension settings.
The suspension setup is derived directly from Formula One, coil-over suspension push-rod spring struts and adaptive dampers. Wheel bearings with ceramic ball bearings for less friction reflect the attention to technical detail.
Carbon-fibre ceramic brakes offer immense deceleration performance. the 19-inch wheels incorporate front axle sports 6-piston fixed callipers and also internally ventilated and perforated brake discs. The rear axle is fitted with 4-piston fixed callipers.
Estimated price for the Merceds AMG ONE is $2.7M USD, only 275 units will ever be made.
