Carwow’s Matt Watson Checks Out The New Gordon Murray T.33 Spider

You know, for some time now, I have been thinking, yes thinking is an art form for me as is communicating. I have been thinking that most modern-day supercars are overstyled to capture attention and soothe the egos of the intended buyer. I am talking about the Lamborghinis and the Ferraris of this world. The Gordon Murray T.33 is a modern supercar lacking the primetime appearance the modern supercar/hypercar has become.

The Gordon Murray T.33 Spider is powered by a naturally aspirated Cosworth-powered 3.9-litre V12 which is good for 617hp and 451Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels. For a modern supercar, it’s very light, weighing in at 1,100kg which is unheard of in today’s world of ICE-powered supercars and hypercars.

Gordon Murray introduces the T.33 Spider to Mat Watson and reveals the car is a result of form and function, no area of the exterior is designed for show, and it has a purpose. To make a car aerodynamically optimized and look classically elegant is very hard to achieve, and the T.33 is at the apex of the latter two.

However, the T.33 Spider is a low-volume bespoke supercar, engineered to the highest standards currently available. Only 100 will be made, all sold out within hours and those willing buyers had no problem paying £2M for one. The Gordon Murray T.33 is an investment to the buyer and because of its rarity it will only accumulate in value.

Buying the T.33 Spider purely as an investment is kind of sad, Murray, like us here at DCB, would much rather such a car is driven into the ground because a car like the T.33 should be driven never hidden away as part of an investment portfolio.
