Shock And Not So Much Awe For The New Look BMW X2
Auto News

The BMW design language is somewhat of an acquired taste these days. The 2 Series embodies classical perfection, exuding aesthetic appeal, while the XM raises eyebrows with a WTAF reaction. BMW’s approach to exterior design is undeniably nonconformist, straddling the line between intriguing and perplexing. Amidst the dynamism, a consistent element is proportionality. By integrating both Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) powertrains within a single platform, BMW achieves economies of scale.

However, this amalgamation results in a heightened stance, approaching the dimensions of a mini MPV. The latest 5 Series exemplifies this phenomenon. With the introduction of the brand-new BMW X2, the vehicle, initially MPV-sized, now edges closer to the dimensions of an SUV in terms of size. Regardless, that’s my take on the whole situation.

Generating 241 horsepower (245 PS / 183 kW) between 4,500–6,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque between 1,500–4,000 rpm, power is efficiently distributed to all four wheels through a 7-speed DCT.

The X2 M35i xDrive takes it up a notch. Sharing its engine with the X1 M35i, this variant boasts the most powerful four-cylinder powertrain. Generating 312 horsepower (316 PS / 233 kW) between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, and boasting peak torque of 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm, the X2 M35i accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 5.2 seconds — a whole second quicker than its M2 xDrive28i counterpart.

2024 BMW X2 Second Generation - Interior

The interior is a copy-paste of the X1, so not too much to hype about. Upon its launch, buyers can choose from eleven distinctive exterior finish options, which now include the striking Vegas Red metallic. For those seeking even more uniqueness, BMW Individual offers exclusive “frozen” shades, and there’s a promise of additional special paint finishes to further broaden the customization possibilities.

The public debut of the second-generation BMW X2 and iX2 is scheduled for the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, on October 26, 2023. The new X2 begins at £39,365 for the three-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol sDrive20i with 168bhp and goes up to £47,395 for the M35i. The iX2 will command £56,540.
