Porsche Panamera Third Generation: The New Reveal
Auto News

We’re uncertain about the headlight cluster design, but the all-new third-generation Porsche Panamera has transformed from the unattractive first-generation to an elegantly styled third-generation 4-door hyper GT. Porsche is consistently subtle in its design evolution, with each new generation taking a slight step forward in design language. While it may appear similar, it’s entirely new. Beneath the metal shell lies arguably the finest chassis engineering in the business. Now, let’s explore what’s new in the third-gen Panamera.

The new Panamera is slightly longer than before and is now available with a choice of 21-inch center-locking wheels, LED matrix headlights which come as standard, and a selection of new colours. The Panamera now incorporates sleeker full-width LED taillights at the rear.

The redesigned interior encompasses a triple-screen design inspired by the Taycan. Accompanying the 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster and the central infotainment touchscreen is an optional 10.9-inch display for the front passenger.

Notably, the absence of a traditional gear lever on the centre console not only creates additional storage space but also aims to minimize clutter. In lieu of the gear lever, drivers will now find a manettino-style selector on the steering wheel, though the universal appeal of this change remains a point of contention.

Porsche is expanding the Panamera electrified range due to high demand with four E-Hybrid powertrains. Although detailed information is currently available only for the Turbo E-Hybrid, it features a larger 25.9 kWh battery pack a revamped twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, and an integrated electric motor.

The hybrid system yields a combined output of 670 hp, enabling a 3-second 0-60 mph sprint and a top speed of 195 mph. Additional details on the other three models are yet to be revealed.

The standard, non-hybrid, entry-level Panamera and Panamera 4 now feature an enhanced turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine. The upgraded engine delivers 348 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, marking a 23 hp and 37 lb-ft increase from the previous version. This improved performance reads, 0-60 mph in 5 seconds for the reader wheel drive variant and 4.7 seconds for the Panamera 4 (AWD).

The Panamera will come with an optional hydraulic active suspension system that can lower and raise the ride height by 2.2 inches. This adjustment is selectable through different drive modes. Porsche claims that the Porsche Active Ride will provide improved levels of ride comfort and handling.

In the UK, sales of the new Porsche Panamera are set to begin in Q1 2024, with prices ranging from £80,000 for the entry-level V6 to £141,400 for the V8-powered plug-in hybrids.
