MKBHD was in attendance for the launch of the new Rivian R2, a midsize SUV, and the R3 a compact crossover which is complimented by the performance variant R3X. Both the R2 and R3 will offer two battery sizes, with the larger pack delivering a claimed range of over 300 miles on a single charge and acceleration from 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds.

Starting at an estimated $45,000, the R2 sets an accessible entry point, with the R3 positioned below it. Reservations for the R2 are now open in the U.S. for a nominal fee of $100, with deliveries slated to commence in the first half of 2026.

Following the R2’s rollout, deliveries of the R3 and R3X will follow suit, and worldwide availability will soon follow the North American debut of the R2, R3, and R3X.

The R2 and R3 will be offered with three motor variants: Single-Motor (RWD), Dual-Motor (AWD), and Tri-Motor (two motors in rear and one in front) configurations, with the quickest configuration delivering 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds.

DC fast charging is compatible with both NACS (native) and CCS (with adapter), charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. Both the R2 and R3 will offer Self-driving tech utilizing Rivian’s new perception stack featuring 11 cameras, five radars and a more powerful compute platform.

Rivian has accelerated the production timeline for the R2, now scheduled to commence within the first half of 2026. With ambitious plans, Rivian aims to achieve a total annual capacity of 215,000 units, spanning its diverse lineup, including the R1T, R1S, EDV, RCV, and now the R2.
