Mercedes utilized the backdrop of the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix to unveil the AMG GT 63 S E Performance, a hybrid drive featuring a V8 engine and electric motor. Drawing inspiration from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, this innovative motorsport technology lays the foundation for a distinctive motoring experience brimming with performance and driving dynamics.
The drivetrain of the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance pairs the AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine on the front axle with an electric drive unit on the rear axle. It incorporates a 150 kW (204 hp) permanently excited synchronous electric motor, coupled with an electrically switched two-speed transmission and a mechanical rear axle limited-slip differential.
Together, the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine and the AMG Electric Drive Unit produce a system output of 600 kW (816 hp) and a maximum torque of up to 1,420 Nm. Achieving rapid acceleration to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, it boasts a top speed of 198 mph.
The cornerstone of the AMG’s high performance lies in the innovative direct cooling of the 400-volt battery: for the first time, the 560 cells are individually cooled. This high-performance battery offers a capacity of 6.1 kWh, 70 kW continuous power, 150 kW peak power, and an electric range of up to 6 miles.
Enhancing the vehicle’s manoeuvrability is the active aerodynamic element concealed in the underbody in front of the engine. Additionally, standard features include rear-axle steering for improved manoeuvring and an AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with semi-active roll stabilization.
Pricing for the AMG GT E Performance is expected to start from around $200,000.
