When someone is labelled as an enthusiast in a particular endeavour, one typically imagines a low-wage obsessive loner whose only real friend is the cast of their own shadow. It’s always assumed to be a he/his. That’s why I find it difficult to label the prospective owner of a $200K sports performance coupe as an enthusiast because they’re often a wealthy individual with disposable income who buy friends, have no real friends are surrounded by spongers. This individual views their $200K AMG supercar to be nothing more than a trophy with no appreciation for the art of engineering.
Anyway, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro has a mission to elevate the performance of the ‘standard’ AMG Coupe. It boasts more power, an improved handling setup, enhanced aerodynamics, and better cooling to make it suitable for both road and occasional track use.
The AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine has been ECU-uprated by 27 hp to deliver 612 hp, with torque increased by 50 Nm to 850. This performance boost was achieved by adapting the engine control unit. The AMG GT 63 Pro accelerates from zero to 200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds (0.5 seconds faster than the AMG GT 63), with a top speed of 317 km/h.
To enhance cooling performance on the racetrack, two radiators are now positioned in the left and right front wheel arches.
Reworked aerodynamics have reduced lift on the front axle, resulting in more precise steering behavior. The AMG GT 63 Pro also features additional air deflectors on the underbody, similar to those on the Mercedes-AMG ONE.
It rides on 21-inch forged alloys and braking power is provided by the standard AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system. This system includes six-piston fixed calipers at the front and one-piston floating calipers at the rear, paired with 420-millimeter brake discs on the front axle.
Emphasizing its connection to motorsport, the AMG GT 63 Pro comes with the standard AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber package, which includes a front splitter, trim strips in the side sills, diffuser, and rear wing in high-quality carbon fiber.
