I’m not entirely pleased with how the new Audi A5 saloon/hatch has turned out. Although it’s the successor to the A4, the rear C-pillar doesn’t seem to work well. As for the estate version, or Avant, Audi has a reputation for creating the most stylish estates. Nevertheless, after generating as much publicity as possible, Audi has finally revealed the pricing and specifications of the new A5, which follows a naming convention and model specification similar to the A4.

Here’s a summary so we don’t bore you into submission:

New Saloon and Avant replace outgoing A4/S4 and A5/S5 model lines and are available to order now, with the first examples due to reach UK customers in November.

In the UK, all A5 variants will initially be available with a choice of Sport, S line and Edition 1 specification, while the S5 Saloon and Avant will be offered exclusively in Edition 1 form.

At launch in the UK, the new A5 range will be powered by new generation TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines – two 2.0-litre TFSI units with 150PS and 204PS and a 2.0-litre TDI with 204PS.

A5 Saloon prices from £41,950, S5 Saloon prices from £68,700 (OTR). A5 Avant will retail from from £43,850, S5 Avant from £70,600 (OTR).

S5 variants available exclusively with Edition 1 specification.
