It’s official: the open secret is no longer a secret—Daniel Ricciardo is no longer part of the Formula One world. In other words, Ricciardo has been sacked, dismissed, and replaced at Red Bull Racing’s entry-level team RB. After a 13-year career, his involvement in Formula One has come to an end. In truth, he had a great run, earning an estimated $70 million along the way.
There’s no need to feel sorry for Ricciardo; his exit is simply part of Formula One’s revolving door. Competing in any professional sport is a fleeting experience, and eventually, retirement becomes inevitable—otherwise, Martin Brundle would still be driving. And let’s be honest, no one wants to witness that nightmare.
Liam Lawson steps into Ricciardo’s shoes for the remainder of the season, but he’s already looking over his shoulder. Franco Colapinto has gained recognition after replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams, with his stock rising after a series of solid performances.
Colapinto is not contracted to any team for 2025, and Red Bull Racing may make a bid for the talented Argentinian. As for Ricciardo, he had a fantastic career, but he’s gone, and the harsh reality is that Formula One will quickly move on.
Soon enough, Ricciardo will become just another footnote in the annals of F1 history—just as all drivers eventually do, even Lewis Hamilton.
