Rolls-Royce has unveiled a limited-edition exterior paint finish, and in a valiant effort to create artificial exclusivity, the powers-that-be decided that the only way to make it remotely desirable was to slap it onto a limited-edition model. In what can only be described as a frantic scramble to find any suitable candidate, Rolls-Royce, perhaps in a haze of mild panic and confusion, somehow landed on the Spectre.
While bespoke, tailored commissions are standard for Rolls-Royce—where customization to client tastes is the norm—a special edition paint finish is not particularly extraordinary for this maker of ultra-luxury cars.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre Lunaflair is the result of a bespoke commission undertaken for a self-important and self-indulgent client from the United States.
The Spectre Lunaflair features a holographic paint finish that creates a ‘rainbow’ effect, mimicking the optical light refraction of a lunar halo, which appears as a colorful ring of light around the moon.
The final effect is achieved through the application of seven layers of lacquer and a specially formulated pearlescent coat, infused with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminum.
